Life goes on...but..

My first attempt at Haiku...A Japanese form of poetry. Although I am nowhere close to the original style (3 0r less lines and 17 syllables) and essence (supposed to be based on natural imagery) of this verse, this is my take as per the recent emotions crowding my psyche. Coming to the end of an unforgettable 5 years as a freewheeling, happy-go-lucky college student to the white collared, methodical office going professional: the transition will not come easy to me. I am certainly not ready for the shift, but then;I have to imbibe it, have to absorb it, have to change it, for once, but not for all....
Ready for nothing,
Awake for everything,
Waiting to be changed...

Urban Shots:Bright Minds..

India owns a cultural spectrum which resembles a rainbow. However, reverberating the same is certainly a challenge for any author. This anthology, edited by Paritosh Uttam has evolved from the conflicts of social and personal relationships, as well from the contemporary conditions which shape them. On this platform where usually masculinity calls the shots, some of the stories try opening emotional outlets for the women too. The lady agonist occupies the centre stage and deal with the challenges in different ways.
The Bengal tigress is a wonderful example of  how a mother can go out to any extent when it comes to their child. Again, in Heaven and Hell, the compassionate self of a woman is portrayed very quintessentially. In Paisley Printed Memories, the author has picked up a very subtle role of a woman, a bride, and how she reminisces her beautiful past at the sight of the 'baraat' even when she's plagued by a deadly disease. In every tale the authors have managed to touch some or the other emotion of the human kind. The situations and the characters in these short stories are mostly extracted from our everyday life, and also occur in places you can instantly relate to, as in the case of the sweet and cute 'Father of my son'. The con girl gang is another hilarious one. Each story, whether it be the salesman who buys the stuff him-selves to achieve the target, the interviewer in the white 'kurti', the sugar-loving Maami, the American-Canadian tourist at the Taj, the young girl in the Hot pants followed by the sophisticated-turned-casual-turned-roadside romeo, or the chatty Military Uncle who had a wonderful grand-daughter, captured an essence of our society.
The characters involved are not mere accoutrements to narrate a tale; rather they have the presence of the story willing to actually serve them. The writers are capable of springing surprises to even those familiar with the Indian society and culture. In majority of the tales, the characters have been carefully kept ordinary, ensuring they do not seem extraordinary or unbelievable. At some points, some of these might be predictable, but that never takes away the fun out of it. Each story stands alone in its own right. It took me just one sitting of approx. 9 hrs. to finish this entire collection (I just couldn't let it go. An amazing experience..!!

P.S.: Thanks to  Blogadda for making me come across such a wonderful collection!

Fifty it is..!!

Thanks everyone for following my blog. I am privileged to have these many people following my blog. Well, I better not write anything else in this past or I will certainly break into tears (considering this is such a sentimental moment:P).
Jokes apart, I want to thank each one of my readers (I know there aren't many..:P) especially Swikruti Panda, Mayank Lodha, who have constantly motivated me to write and given me genuine feedback. A special thanks to Hemant Baid (who only praises it, irrespective of the quality of the post) and Reshma Baid (I have a feeling, you read each one of my posts, and probably are the only one who has subscribed to it:P) and of course all of my fellow GraveYard'ians, (I am taking this liberty, because I don't exactly know the term used for people who live in graveyard and are alive)although I am very sure none of u will read this..:P
More to come in the next post..

Here's the deal..!

It's the online era..and if you are not into online shopping, buddy...i pity you!!With hordes of online sites available with the best deals across the world wide web or rather even the brick stores, you sure don't want to give it a  miss. It is as tempting as any of the chocolate puddings and is as addictive as the "Buy one Get one Cheese Burst Domino's pizza"..;)Wouldn't it be hard to not tempt yourself into buying a pepsodent toothpaste worth Rs. 64 at just 19 bucks..??I am sure it's impossible! However it is best if you could, because this is just the beginning. With a hell lot of coupons,150 off on 151, 500 off on no minimum purchase, flat 50% off after an already substantial discount by the merchant you are bound to happily fall into this nasty trap.
Not just that, slippers @Re.1,(no, there was no additional shipping charges and you could also avail the Cash On Delivery facility:P),pack of 3 lux soaps@ Rs. 19, how can someone be not hooked to it. The sense of pride associated with having everything at better than the best prices,(even if you do not need it)is beyond the scope of words and getting the best deals available is the new status quo...!
The time is not far when, some of these Yebhis or the Mydalas or the Snapdeals would go online selling fruits, vegetables, and all the grocery items. Pardon me if there's already an existing one for all such items, however I haven't come across any until now. Trust me, the day's not far..!! With everything available at such throwaway prices I doubt whether the net savvy people would actually be bothered about Walmart coming into India (all the fuss about the FDI thing), they are already wearing Jockeys at the price of Rupas and Nike and the price of Nikki!!(I know you bought it at less than the cost of Rupa but that's just an indicative)There would be a day when there will be blood banks and sperm banks operating online..ohh..I forgot to mention,a few days back there was a valentine special discount...Buy a pack of 10 @just Re.1(No extra shipping charges)..Have a safe valentine's day..:P.
Sometimes it so happens that people go and watch a movie, just to avail the free popcorn and soft drink. In fact there are sites which offer people to go and watch a movie, have snacks and all in lieu of a 2 page survey which you are to submit..Long live RedQuanta..!!Trust me I did not mind watching even as horrible a movie as ThankYou..:D.There are days when I see the guy from Bluedart bringing the items in an auto, the two wheelers's just not enough, and the amusing thing is: those days are pretty frequent..:P. Imagine the amount of business Bluedart makes out of our institute alone, it's actually huge!!Anyways, for all those who haven't tried it yet, start soon. You might just miss out on one, while you are reading this...and for those who already do...Happy Shopping!!(Although I am sure they are not going to waste their time reading this post)

Christmas eve..

First of all Merry Christmas to all. This day when the world is painted red and white is usually very special to all the children across the globe and same was the case with me. The day we waited for, or the night may be..;) So much fun it was to be fooled by your parents, and how cleverly they used to do so!I vaguely remember, once as a 7-8 year old I started having suspicions about the existence of Santa, and I tried to spy on my parents. I closed my eyes and pretended to sleep as I had this plan of catching them red handed, but alas, they were smarter..and again I couldn't figure out if it is was actually Santa! Nevertheless I started believing what I could never perceive: Santa  used to plant the gifts in my father's socks and place it under my bed..:D. Waking up early and searching for the single sock, running to my sister to find out what Santa had gifted her all formed a part of my Christmas morning for quite a many years..:P
The Christmas tree with all the decorations and the Santa in our hall, the Christmas party with all the kids in those colorful costumes, all forms a wonderful part of my memory.
For all those who could relate with this post I am sure you miss those X-Mas eves..!

Trivia: The red and white costume of Santa was popularized by Coca Cola in 1930.
